The Manager of Clinical Education and Nursing Professional Development oversees nursing education, professional development, and competency programs for nursing and patient care teams. This role collaborates with nursing and interdisciplinary leaders to ensure high-quality, learner-centered training and education while promoting evidence-based practice and workforce development across the organization.

The Manager is responsible for leading clinical educators, program coordinators and professional development specialists; assessing learning needs; developing educational strategies; ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance; and advancing nursing professional practice through orientation, competency validation, continuing education, leadership development, scientific inquiry and career advancement initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for nursing education programs, student programming, life support and clinical practice.
  • Align clinical practice, education, and professional development with organizational goals.
  • Promote a culture of lifelong learning, clinical excellence, and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory standards.
  • Maintain competency readiness for accreditation and regulatory surveys.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives integrating education and practice change.
  • Develop and manage budgets for operations and education programs.
  • Monitor labor productivity, education program costs, and resource utilization.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or staff development.
  • Partner with ancillary departments to identify gaps, propose evidence-based solutions through practice and education and support change management delivery.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions and external partners (if applicable).
  • Serve on committees related to quality, education, and clinical practice.

Qualifications:

Education:  Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master’s degree in Nursing Education or Healthcare Leadership (MSN) required.

Professional Licensure/Certification/Registration:  Current Washington State Registered Nurse license. Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC) and specialty certification strongly preferred. 

Experience

  • A minimum of five years clinical nursing experience.
  • Three years experience in nursing education, staff development, or clinical training.
  • Three years of nursing leadership experience preferred. 
  • Experience with developing and implementing clinical education programs for hospital/acute care setting required. Expertise in adult learning principles, competency design and professional development frameworks highly desired.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management and change management skills preferred.  Experience with accreditation and academic partnerships preferred.
